Film festivals have joined forces to create a brand new online event called WE ARE ONE: A Global Film Festival. Movies are to be streamed for free on YouTube to raise money for the World Health Organisation’s COVID-19 response fund.

Berlin, Cannes, Sundance, Toronto and more!

It’s probably fair to say that the world has been in a state of flux recently, with the coronavirus pandemic impacting almost every element of daily life. COVID-19 has put a lot of things in perspective, such as the importance of family and friendship at the very centre of our lives.

When it comes to entertainment, it feels a lot like we’ve been temporarily denied some of life’s greatest pleasures. For film buffs that means closed cinemas, temporary holds on film production and the forced cancellation of some of the industries biggest events such as the Cannes Film Festival in May.

But out of the darkness, we are now starting to see a few glimmers of light. One such story is about a new online film festival – WE ARE ONE: A Global Film Festival – where over 20 international festivals have united to bring ten days worth of movie streaming to YouTube.

The event will showcase films, documentaries, music, comedy and conversations, bringing film festival joy direct to our very own homes!

The organisers of Cannes described it as an opportunity “to spotlight truly extraordinary films and talent, allowing audiences to experience both the nuances of storytelling from around the world and the artistic personalities of each festival”.

Set A Reminder for Friday 29th May 2020

The WE ARE ONE: A Global Film Festival begins on Friday 29th May 2020. The festival will stream for free, with viewers urged to donate to the World Health Organization’s Covid-19 solidarity response fund. For more information, visit their YouTube channel.
